Its all about Dollars and Sense
While it is fantastic to see Tiger Woods back in Australia again and his appearance is no doubt great for the game of golf in Australia, does he really need $3 Million Dollars plus in appearance fees to get him here?
Don’t get me wrong I don’t disagree with the Australian golfing or government decision makers who gave the green light to pay the exhorbitant appearance fee, the money I think is well spent for what is will do for the economy and for the enthusiasm it raises in the sport. What I do disagree with is why a sportsman of Tiger Woods caliber needs to charge an appearance fee?
Surely Golfs first Billion dollar man, let me just say that again for emphasis, Golf’s first Billion Dollar man needs any other financial incentive over above the rediculous amounts he gets for playing a sport for a living.
While as a hacker I am in awe and appreciation of the talent that these players have, their earning capacity for even the lower ranked players is way out of balance with the rest of society and in todays market when we are questioning the validity of exectuive salaries maybe it is time we have a closer look at the paychecks of our elite sportsmen.
After all the hype of a Tiger Woods level sportsman is finished and he has flown back home to his castle it is you an I the happy go lucky hackers that forkĀ out hundreds of dollars for golf equipment which is heavily marked up to pay for these elite sportmens paychecks.
Surely when we reach the levels of a sportmens becoming a Billionaire purely from sporting achievements and edorsements we need to take stock and think about where the dollars may make more sense.
